Personal growth is a journey, but sometimes it can be tough to know which first step to take. Here are 5 different steps to get you started!

feet facing choice of where to go

It has been said that we are growing and progressing in this life or we are digressing and stalling.  Life comes with many experiences that have dramatic impacts on the way we see ourselves, our lives, and our relationships.  All of us can continue growing and changing, and yet, there is a fear that gets in the way of us empowering our lives.  We put off our personal growth and development for things to remain the same.

We all have parts of our lives or our identities that we would like to work on improving.  When we start to think about what we can do, it is common that we also start coming up with reasons why it won’t happen.  We begin making excuses rather than changes and we end up staying in the same place that we started, which is the place we want to escape.

It’s time for your personal revolution to begin!  There is no better time than the moment you are in to start making changes and taking steps towards where you want to be in your journey.  The only opportunity we are guaranteed is the moment we are in, and it is up to us to decide what we are going to do with that chance.

One of the most common barriers to our personal growth and development is finding a good place to start.  We may sit and plan and try to identify what we want to do, only to get lost in the planning stage and not go to the next level.  It’s time to try a new strategy to empower your life and start your personal revolution!

This post focuses on helping you start your personal revolution.  If you feel stuck, it’s time to breakthrough and empower your life.  You will feel the relationship you have with yourself and others grow and find new meaning and worth in your life.  You don’t have to take all these strategies on at once, so do not feel overwhelmed.  The key is to pick one and get going!

Strategy #1:  Stop Waiting and Get Started

Why is personal change so hard to do?  What keeps us from leveling up each day?  We all intuitively that it would be beneficial and helpful in our lives, and yet, we still don’t do it.  One of the common reasons I’ve seen this happening when working with people is that we are looking for the right time to make the change.  We might be planning what we want to do, but for the most part we are simply waiting for the right time.

Those that are waiting for some-day to happen are missing out on today.  If you’re waiting for the right time to make personal growth happen, you’re going to be waiting for a long time.  The truth is we tend to tell ourselves little lies or rationalize why right now is not good.  As time goes on this becomes our approach and we stop moving forward.

If you want your personal revolution to take off, then you have to get started!  The fact is, it doesn’t matter where you begin as long as you start.  Your starting point does not have to be large and groundbreaking.  If you want the change to be real, start with small things and let them build over time.  Do not wait for your fear to give your permission, the fact you woke up today with an opportunity is all the permission you need!

Strategy #2:  Work on Something Daily

list of daily goals

With the first strategy you were given permission to start, it doesn’t matter where, just get started.  One of the best ways to start is to find something to work on daily.  The thing you choose to work on does not have to be huge either!  It can be something as simple as making sure to say thank you, smiling at someone, finding time to laugh, or helping someone out.  There are no right or wrong answers as long as you are putting in some work!

Depending on where you are in your personal growth and development journey, you might be well aware of what you would like to work on or you might be drawing a blank.  If you know what you would like to work on, the key is breaking that down into small steps that you can start working on each day.  Don’t take the whole thing on at once, you will get overwhelmed and stop trying.  Break it down, make it doable each day, and soon you will see amazing growth and change in you and your life!

If you are drawing a blank on what you want to work on, that is fine too.  A client I worked with had a brilliant solution to this that worked wonders for them and getting them out of that rut.  They just ordered a book on personal development to help give them ideas.  A lot of the time when we think too narrowly we do not see where our opportunities for growth lie.  Learning about what others have done is a powerful way to get moving on your own journey.

Strategy #3:  Journal Daily

The longer we keep things in our head only, the more likely we are to keep it there and do nothing more with those things.  This may include ideas, hopes, dreams and what stresses us out.  Over time this creates chaos in our minds as we attempt to juggle all these different things.  Once this happens, we begin to feel overwhelmed and our chances of doing something to take a step forward on our journey gets less and less.

Journaling is a powerful way to overcome this obstacle to our personal growth.  It allows us to get what is in our head onto something external.  There is something powerful and cleansing to our brains when we do something simple like write it down or type it up.  It releases the chaos and helps to restore order in our brains.  With less chaos and more clarity, our chances of taking a step forward in our personal growth go up.

Adding journaling into our daily routine can be a tough thing to do.  We may not always remember to do it or know what to write down.  If you focus on the negative in your journaling, you can reinforce the negativity and create more of it in your life.  If you want to start journaling and not sure where to start, you are not alone.  To help with that, we created a journal that provides a weekly personal growth topic and daily prompts to go with it.  If this would be of interest, you can check it out here.

Strategy #4:  Turn Dreams into Goals

What do you want to do in life?  What dreams do you have that make you smile?  Now, the important question!  What steps are you taking to make those dreams happen?  If we want to make our dreams a reality, we have to turn them into goals.  Dreams are simply that, things we think about and wish would happen because it would be amazing, but nothing gets done.  Goals take those dreams and give them actionable steps so we can start reaching them.

Setting goals for yourself helps you move forward in your journal.  Your personal revolution will remain a dream if you are not putting actionable steps in place.  What would change in your life if you took the time to sit down and turn your dreams into goals?  Creates steps that you can start working on now.  The more you put it off, the more your dreams will stay just that and not become the life you want to live.

Strategy #5:  Collaborate with a Personal Growth Coach

personal growth coach and client

Have you started taking steps to make the changes you want and still feel stuck?  Sometimes it is hard to know which step we want to take or what part of the goal to work on next.  There are times that part of our personal revolution is learning to ask for help so that we can go to the next level.  This is where a Personal Growth Coach can be a smart investment.

Personal Growth Coaches work directly with you and your hopes, dreams and goals.  They are not here to tell you what you should do or who you should be.  If you feel that from a coach, you are not working with the right person.  Your Personal Growth Coach should be your ally and support, holding you accountable to the goals and commitments you make that align with your vision.

The powerful relationship that forms between a coach and client can be just the catalyst you are looking for to take your personal revolution to the next step.  It’s an investment that more than makes up for itself as you unlock your potential even more and live a powerful and satisfying life.  There is no better time to make this investment than now, Your Personal Revolution is waiting!
